Children learn through play at Appletree Hill

For over 40 years, families and educators have built a warm, play-based kindergarten where every child is known, valued and free to explore.

Learning is guided by qualified early childhood teachers and co-educators, and the preschool is governed by the Appletree Hill Preschool Association — a parent committee that volunteers its time for the children and the centre.

Play at the heart of every day

Children construct knowledge through play — following their interests, building relationships, and practising new skills with thoughtful guidance from educators.

Play-based learning

We believe the process of inquiry matters more than a finished product. Children explore, invent and solve problems indoors and outdoors at their own pace.

Skilled educators

University-trained early childhood teachers and experienced co-educators plan for each child’s strengths, interests and wellbeing — not a one-size-fits-all timetable of drills.

Belonging first

Secure, respectful relationships help children feel safe enough to take risks, make friends and grow in confidence — foundations for school and for life.

A parent association, not a government office

Appletree Hill is a not-for-profit incorporated association. Day-to-day education is led by our teaching team. Governance sits with a volunteer Committee of Management — including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and other parent roles — elected each year at the AGM.

The committee supports enrolments administration, finances, maintenance, fundraising and policy direction, so the kindergarten can keep focusing on children. Monthly meetings keep families involved in decisions that shape the centre.

We are a licensed children’s service. The Victorian Government supports Free Kinder funding and the National Quality Framework sets the quality standards we exceed — but the culture, curriculum and daily experience are created here by educators and families together.
